Daily Activities

Day 1 - Welcoming Ceremony    

Our first day in Jambi, Indonesia and we had our welcoming ceremony in Universitas Jambi. The program was started at 9:00 in the morning. We introduced ourselves one by one. The Head Masters, teachers and lecturers, staffs and buddies in the Universitas Jambi welcomed us wholeheartedly. After the welcoming ceremony we had a tour in the Universitas Jambi with Kaka Nita and Soni (Buddy). 

Day 3 - Batang Hari Escapade

Rest day!! But early in the morning we did our laundry, we cleaned our dorm and we prepared ourselves because we went to somewhere. 10:00 in the morning we visited the Universitas Jambi Graduate School. We met a Filipino lecturer and we also met other professors. We ate our lunch and went to a nearby karaoke to have fun, bonding and knowing each other. We also visited the Batanghari Bridge and we really enjoyed the view and it was one of the stunning landmark in Jambi.

Day 2 - Sending to Cooperating School

Early in the morning we were preparing ourselves because our coordenator in Universitas Jambi sent us to our cooperating school. I and two fellow participants was assigned in SMP Negeri 11/ Junior High School 11. We were introduced to the principal, to our cooperating teacher, Ibu Maya, and to the other teachers.  Ibu Layla asked her students to tour us in the school. The students gave us a tour in their beloved alma mater and they also answered our questions. Our cooperating teacher gave us a little time to observed her class and we also stayed in the library to looked for some book we can use when where going to teach.

Day 4 - Time to Pray 

Sunday is the day to praise our God and thank our God for the blessing He gave to us through out the whole week. Early in the morning we prepared ourselves because we went to the Governor's Office. We enjoyed the street market and we enjoyed the food out there. In the afternoon, one of our buddy accompanied us to a church, S. Teresia, a first Catholic church in Jambi, to pray and worship our God. We also got the blessing of their priest after the mass.

Day 5 - 1st Observation

First day of observation in SMP Negeri 11. 6:30 in the morning we prepared ourselves and went to the SMP Negeri 11. We arrived in the school at 6:50 and the flag ceremony started at 7:00 in the morning. We were lucky to participated the flag ceremony. It was totally different from the Philippines and it was quite unique. After the flag ceremony we visited the science laboratory to check the availability of the equipment. Ibu Maya also showed us her lesson plan and syllabus. 

Day 6 - 2nd Observation

Second day of observation in SMP Negeri 11.  We came late because of the traffic and the rain. We arrived in the school at 7:20 in the morning. Our cooperating teacher was not feeling well so she told us to continue doing our lesson plan . 

Day 7 - 3rd Observation

The third day of our observation in SMP Negeri 11.  We observed Ibu Maya's class in 2nd period. The topic was all about pressure. First, she demonstrated the pressure in our daily activity and discussed it's definition to the students. She also gave problem-solving and let them participate in class by having a board work. Lastly, she reviewed the students on the learning they get on the discussion and she gave an assessment to the students in a form of a game. The students enjoy the game while learning.

Day 8 - 4th Observation

Fourth day of our observation and I've observed that the students have different uniform every day and it was amazing. We observed the 3rd period and 4th period of our cooperating teacher's class. They continue their topic which all about pressure.  After the observation Ibu Ma invited us to eat lunch with them. They brought us to a good restaurant and we ate together. The food was delicious and it was a good memory with them. 

Day 9 - 5th Observation

7:00 in the morning the students and teachers gathered in the basketball court to do their prayer and it was called "Yasinan". It was a good tradition to passed on to the young generation the culture of Muslim. Every one is so dedicated to do their prayer and it was amazing to witness those kind of event. They were really devoted to their religion and they really put it to their heart how important their culture is.

Day 11 - Lesson Planning

Sunday and we just stayed at the dorm making our lesson plan and making some instructional materials we using in teaching. After that we played UNO cards to enjoy ourselves and to let stress out of our mind. We also rest our body so that we will be ready for our practice teaching.

Day 10 - Batik Making

We prepared as early as we can because we were excited to experience the batik making. We travel for almost 2 hours just to get to a house where we can make a batik. We stopped first at a park to eat our lunch. After that we went to the house and we were introduced to the owner. Then they demonstrated how to make a batik design. It was a great day because we experience such an  amazing culture of Indonesia.

Day 12 - Teaching and Assisting

We prepared ourselves early in the morning and went to our assigned school. First, we participated their flag ceremony for the second time. Ibu Maya don't have a class every Monday so she just checked our lesson plan. She also helped in preparing our materials for tomorrow's class.

Day 13 - Teaching and Assisting

Two of us was assigned to only one cooperating teacher and our cooperating teacher handles two class, Class 8J and 8K.  We decided what day we should teach. Keith, my partner, decided to teach in Tuesday and Friday for class 8K while I will teach every Wednesday and Thursday for Class 8J.  Keith was having his first demonstration this day. His topic is all about respiratory system. I was assisting Keith in his first demonstration. I took pictures and help him prepared his materials.

Day 14 - Trip to Mauro Jambi 

We don't have class at this time so the teachers of SMP Negeri 11 decided to have a field trip in Mauro Jambi. We went to their Buddhist Temple together with the teachers. We ate our lunch in the beautiful view in Mauro Jambi Temple. After that we decided to walked and took pictures of the temples. We also went to the museum where they preserved artifacts left in the temple. The place is great for bonding with your friends, family and relatives. You can also try biking in the area. It was the best moment we spent with the teachers of SMP Negeri 11. 

Day 15 - Teaching in class 8J

I was excited and I was also afraid. I feel those two emotion when I woke up. This day was important day to me because I had my demonstration in class 8J. Ibu Maya tried to talked to me to calm me down. First, I told myself to tried my best to deliver my lesson to the class properly but when the class was started I got nervous and I'm sweating a lot but I managed to execute all activities in my lesson plan. It was so refreshing after the class when I saw the sweet smiles of my students. It was a good experience and I've learned so many things that day. After that I made a reflection about my demonstration. 

Day 16 - Teaching and Assisting

This day I was assisting Keith because he was assigned to teach this day. He though the Class 8K and he continue his lesson in their last meeting. While assisting I also tried my best to learn from him. I take note some strategy and method he used and how he delivered his lesson to the students. After that Ibu Maya treated us in the canteen and she asked me some questions about why I joined this program. 

Day 18 - Went Fishing!!!!!

The staff of International Office in UNJA decided to a lunch in Ma'am Yunni's house. They had a fish pond where we can go fishing. I was excited to go fishing because it will be my first time. We go fishing because we will cook it in our lunch. I caught a fish and I was happy. After that we cleaned the fish and cooked it. It was a great day to have a bonding with the staff of International Office. 

Day 17 - Rest Day

We stayed in our dorm just to make a lesson plan and instructional materials because next week will be our final evaluation. We bought some school supplies in Jamtos (Mall) and we make our instructional materials.  We also take a rest to have energy for tomorrow's activity.

Day 19 - Preparing for Final Evaluation

Ibu Maya asked us what were materials we needed for our final evaluation. Keith and I decided to have a laboratory activity. So we used the science laboratory for our final demonstration. We prepared the materials and equipment. We also prepared the science laboratory. Ibu Maya also checked our lesson plan before we had our final demonstration. I was nervous at that time and we also contact our supervisor in UNJA to observe and evaluate the final evaluation .

Day 20 - Keith's Final Demo

Keith was ready to take the class and I was ready to capture that moment. We prepared all the materials before Keith started the class. Keith was confident in front of the students while discussing the topic. It was a great experience to be assisting someone and I also observed and learned what I can learn, for me to used it in the future. IN the evening I finish all the materials I need for my Final demo.

Day 21 - My Final Demo

I woke up early, prepared my self and tried to relax my self. I asked the God almighty to guide me and give me strength in my final evaluation. We arrived at SMP Negeri 11 at 7:00 in the morning. We prepared the science laboratory and the materials I needed. After that my supervisor was arrived and the class was started. At first, I was a little bit nervous but later on I found myself enjoying the discussion. It was amazing and unforgettable moment  in my life. After the class we took a pictures with my students and some students gave some present to me. I was overwhelmed and I was very happy to be able to joined the program and met them.  

Day 22 - Seminar in UNJA

Some of my co-participants were having their seminar with supervisors. All of us went to UNJA to have seminars. Keith and I was invited by Ma'am Upik, Keith's supervisor, to join her class. Then we shared our experiences, about our university and also our challenges that we encountered during the program to her Biology students. It was fun sharing our experiences to them and encouraged them to join the program.

Day 23 - Seminar in UNJA

This day was my Seminar with Mr. Wawan, a physics professor in UNJA. He interviewed me with 12 questions and I answered all the questions. We took a photo with him and I was introduced to his one physics student, Yugi was his name. After the seminar he accompanied me in the canteen to eat. He was good and he planned to join the program next batch. After that Mr. Wawan told Yugi to asked me some question while having a video because they will post it in their website. 

Day 24 - Informal Gathering and Kampeong Radja Adventure

We went to one of supervisor's house to have a gathering. All staff in international office, supervisors, cooperating teachers, head masters was invited. We celebrated the success of the program and the cooperating teachers shared their experiences with us. I was happy and a little bit sad because I know we almost done with the program. We ate our lunch together and after that we took a picture together. We also showed our presentation to them. After the gathering we went to the Kampeong Radja to experience their fun rides, pool, paint ball and rope challenges. We enjoy our time swimming and it was unforgettable experience. 

Day 25 - DJ is in the House!!

Sunday and we almost go back to our country. Our last adventure, and we enjoyed it. We went to Radio Station, EB 102.7 FM, because we were interviewed by the Dj. After that we went to a Duku farm to experience the fun in getting duku from its tree. We got a lot of duku and we also got a lot of fun. We played, ate and had fun in the farm.  It was a great day!!! 

Day 26 - Last Day in UNJA

Last day UNJA and I feel a little bit sad. We went UNJA and met the Dean of College of Education in UNJA. He gave his inspiring message to us and he gave us advice that we can used in the future. Then we went to International Office to have a closing ceremony. Ma'am Yunni gave her message to us. It was sad that we need to back to our country. One of the participants from Thailand were saying goodbye to us because he's going back to Thailand. The memories we made will be treasured forever.

Day 27 - Time to say "SEE YOU SOON" not Goodbye

This day will be the last day in Jambi. This day will be goodbye. It's hard to say goodbye to the person and place that give unforgettable moments  in my life. Instead of saying goodbye, "see you soon" is the right words to say. Because I know that we will be able to see Jambi again in our life. The learning, knowledge, experiences, moments, cultures, relationship and bond we made will be in my heart forever and I will treasure those moments until I grow old. It was a great experience to open my year 2019 and I hope I can go back to Jambi once again.
